TABLE
Door, digitally milled wood bin (hand constructed and painted), laser cut and 3D printed “toys”, buckets, tape, plastic flowers, recycling items.
The tradition of saving your parking space in Philadelphia is an often divisive action that separates strangers and neighbors. In TABLE, I am exploring the simple notion of a table as an antidote to this social decay. I wanted to construct a space saver that brought people together. A table is not only an easily constructed object, but it is also a place, where people can come together in conviviality over food and conversation.
10th and Moore: There weren’t as many people walking around as I had imagined there would be. I was overwhelmed with the number of eyes that saw my space saver through the window of a moving car. I imagined that people walk more than they drive in the city. However, I found that car culture is more pervasive in the city than I had guessed. Perhaps this is why people have to fight for parking spaces.
